Two men have been jailed for handling stolen goods including equipment and vehicles stolen from a construction site in Evercreech.

Derby McGirr, aged 28, of no fixed address, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment and Jamie Staite, aged 31, of Grass Royal in Yeovil, was sentenced to 16 months' imprisonment, following a hearing at Taunton Crown Court on Friday June 25.

McGirr's total sentence also included other offences he was convicted of, including disqualified driving.

In February 2021, equipment and two vehicles were stolen from a construction site in Evercreech.

PC Jim Card, of Operation Remedy, said: "These sentences are a positive conclusion to an investigation which resulted in the recovery of two vehicles stolen from the construction site – one being found in Somerset and the other in Essex.

"We hope this shows how seriously the police and the courts take offences like this."
