Shepton Mallet's got its sleeves rolled up this week, with the Men's Shed opening its doors and the Bath & West filling up fast for the Homebuilding & Renovating Show. If that all sounds a bit too practical, Clarks Village has kicked off its ice rink season - so you can slide straight from power tools to penguin-shaped skating aids without missing a beat.

Starting on Thursday 13 November, From Somerset to the Seychelles sees Sally Mills take the floor at Glastonbury Town Hall for a talk with the Women's Friendship Group. It's at 2:30 pm, so ideal if you fancy a midweek escape that doesn't involve actual international travel.

That evening also kicks off a three-night run of Frankenstein at Strode Theatre - a brooding, high-drama take on the Mary Shelley classic, because nothing says "cosy autumn evening" like torches, mobs and scientific hubris.

On Friday 14 November, Street hosts the Avalon Wellness Community Meetup, a networking morning for wellbeing folk that runs from 10 am to midday. It's £14 including tea and coffee—bring your chakras and a business card.

Meanwhile, Wells braces itself for Wells City Carnival 2025, which lights up the streets from 7 pm. There's free parking in official spots, but if you think you'll get through the city centre in a car after 6:30, good luck.

If carnival crowds aren't your thing, SEKTOR 7 – Trad Goth · Post-Punk · Darkwave might be. The Assembly Rooms in Glastonbury hosts two nights of goth, post-punk and darkwave DJ sets on Friday and Saturday—entry's a tenner, and black is very much the dress code.

Saturday 15 November is where it all peaks. The Glastonbury & Chilkwell Carnival kicks off at 6:45 pm and shuts down the town centre from 5 pm. This is the big finale of the Somerset Carnival Circuit, so expect loud music, lights, road closures and a solid chance of getting glitter in your chips.

Earlier that day, Christmas Bazaar at Wells Town Hall offers all the raffle tickets and local crafts you didn't know you needed, while Men's Shed Opening Day gives Shepton's tool-wielding social club a proper launch.

And across both Saturday and Sunday, the Homebuilding & Renovating Show takes over the Bath & West Showground. Hundreds of stands, energy-saving advice, free seminars and a lot of daydreaming about underfloor heating await. Bonus: two free tickets if you're quick.

On Sunday 16 November, Tribute to the Divas with Angie Lang brings sequins and sass to The Loft in Street. It starts at 2:30 pm and includes a two-course lunch, which sounds ideal unless you're still picking toffee apple out of your coat from carnival night.

Then on Tuesday 18 November, the Arts Society Mid Somerset gets philosophical with The Art of Melancholy at Caryford Hall in Castle Cary. Coffee from 10:15 am, talk starts soon after—bring £8 and your best pensive face.

Looking further ahead to Saturday 22 November, Glastonbury Repair Café returns—just not on its usual weekend. It's been bumped due to hall availability, but still promises cake, tools, and slightly judgemental help fixing your knackered toaster, broken secateurs or misbehaving electronics.

And from Saturday 29 November to Tuesday 2 December, the Mega Art Sale takes over Glastonbury Galleries. Expect visionary prints, three-for-two offers, and enough spiritual card decks to stock a small sanctuary. It runs daily 11 am to 5 pm.

Meanwhile, throughout November and beyond, the Clarks Village Ice Rink is back in business. It's undercover, so the Somerset drizzle won't ruin your attempt at not falling over in front of a child.
