Strode College hosts powerful domestic abuse conference with Avon and Somerset Police

Survivor stories, student performances and a new pledge mark a day of action and awareness in Street.
Strode College has hosted a moving and impactful conference on domestic abuse in partnership with Avon and Somerset Police — bringing together survivors, professionals and students to raise awareness and drive change.
Held on campus, the event featured keynote speaker Detective Superintendent Kris Windsor, who leads the police response to domestic abuse across the force area. He was joined by guest speaker Sam Beckingsale, who shared her personal experience as a survivor and screened a short film based on her story.
The day also included powerful performances by Strode's theatre students, exploring the emotional and psychological impact of domestic abuse through spoken word and physical theatre. These were followed by a roundtable discussion where speakers and attendees reflected on how to recognise the signs of abuse and support others — both in the workplace and in wider society.
In a major step forward, the college also announced that it has signed up to the Employers Initiative on Domestic Abuse (EIDA), a national network of employers committed to taking action on domestic abuse and supporting affected staff and students.
A spokesperson for the college said the day was one of "learning, reflection, and action", and praised everyone involved — including the college's hospitality students, who provided catering for the event.
Anyone affected by the issues raised is encouraged to contact the Somerset Domestic Abuse Support helpline on 0800 694 9999.
