The Shepton Snowdrop Festival 2025 is set to return this February with a packed programme of events, workshops, and activities.

Taking place during the half-term break, the festival promises something for everyone, from gardening enthusiasts and plant collectors to families looking for free creative activities.

This year's programme is more varied than ever, with highlights including plant sales by RHS award-winning growers such as In Clover and Elworthy Cottage Plants, as well as artisanal creations like wirework flowers by Kate Westcott and botanical ceramics by Jackdaw Botanics.

Visitors can take part in workshops ranging from willow Kokedama and glass painting to dried flower wreath-making and snowdrop puppetry.

The 'Treasures of Nature' fashion show will showcase upcycled outfits created by local artists and community members, adding a touch of creativity to the festivities.

Talks and garden visits will remain a strong feature of the festival, with no-dig gardening pioneer Charles Dowding discussing the ease and benefits of no-dig gardening. Open garden visits will include Yeo Valley Organic Garden and RHS partner garden Kilver Court, offering visitors the chance to see award-winning horticulture up close.

The Shepton Snowdrop Project, which organises the festival, has planted over half a million bulbs across the town in recent years, blanketing Shepton Mallet in white each winter.

Festival Director Amanda Hirst said: ""We have a unique connection to the snowdrop. As far as we know, no other town in the countryvcan boast a connection to a Snowdrop King. James Allen, an amateur horticulturist, bred over 100 cultivars of snowdrops. Born and bred in Shepton, he was given the title by his 19th century galanthophile peers. It's to commemorate his legacy that we celebrate the snowdrop each year with the annual Festival.

"Other than James Allen, one of the other things that has always made Shepton Snowdrop Festival unique is its broad appeal. We draw visitors from the town, local villages, the west country and much further afield. Wherever our visitors are from, they're sure to enjoy a warm welcome and an enormously varied Festival.

The festival's core events will take place on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd February, with details and booking information available at www.sheptonsnowdrops.org.
