Shepton Mallet Urgent Treatment Centre is closed all day today, Tuesday, 8 September, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed.

The unit at Shepton Mallet Community Hospital also closed early on Monday, 7 September, stopping admissions to new patients at 3 pm before closing fully at 3.30 pm.

The NHS trust has not given a reason for the temporary closure.

Shepton Mallet UTC normally opens seven days a week from 8 am until 9 pm, with the last patient usually admitted at 8.30 pm.

The unit treats a range of non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries, including sprains, strains, broken bones, cuts, wounds, bites, minor head injuries and some infections.

Patients who need urgent care while the Shepton unit is closed are being advised to use NHS 111, which can direct them to the most appropriate available service.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust also advises people to check current UTC opening times before travelling, as units can sometimes close early if they reach capacity.

Other urgent treatment centres operate in locations including Glastonbury, Frome, Bridgwater, Minehead, Chard and Yeovil.
