Shepton Mallet unveils six new community noticeboards to boost local engagement
In a move aimed at strengthening community ties, Shepton Mallet Town Council has unveiled six new open-faced wooden noticeboards across residential areas in the town.
The initiative came following calls from local community groups for more means to disseminate information on neighbourhood activities.
While the Town Council already owns and manages three glass-fronted noticeboards primarily for official announcements, the additional boards have been introduced to serve a more grassroots purpose.
They offer local residents an easier way to discover and share news about events, classes, clubs and other communal activities.
The Town Council collaborated with the local Men's Shed to construct these noticeboards. All six boards have received planning permission, five of which are situated on Somerset Council land. Each board also features a QR code linking to a designated page on the Town Council's website, offering guidelines on how to use them.
The new noticeboards can be found at the following locations:
- Little Brooks Lane entrance to Tadley Acres
- Footpath leading from Norah Fry Avenue to Barrington Place
- Beside the Queens Road play area
- Entrance to West Shepton Playing Fields
- Adjacent to the basketball court on Draycott Road
- Corner of Amulet Way and Chio-Rio close, off Fosse Lane
Members of the public wishing to advertise on the noticeboards can do so directly, as long as the content aligns with set guidelines.
The Town Council is keen to involve the community in maintaining the content of these noticeboards and has called for volunteers to assist in keeping them updated. Interested locals can get in touch via email at [email protected] to learn how they can contribute.
