A burst of creative energy is coming to town as Shepton's own Summer Exhibition is unveiled at Create@#8.
Taking inspiration from the Royal Academy's renowned Summer Exhibition, Shepton Mallet has launched its own local version, showcasing the incredible talent found within the community.
The event is hosted by SMart (Shepton Mallet Art and Culture), marking their - and likely Shepton's - first-ever Summer Exhibition at Create@#8, a popular pop-up gallery space in Town Street.
What to Expect
Visitors can feast their eyes on paintings in oil, acrylic, and mixed media; original hand-painted linoprints; ceramics; wood carving and woodturning; and much more. There will also be mixed media displays featuring textiles, wire, and ceramics. Every piece is crafted by an artist living locally, adding a personal touch to the exhibition.
In addition to enjoying the art, visitors can have a coffee and a cake in Shepton and explore the surrounding area.
Charity Effort
A special feature of the exhibition will be postcards painted over the summer and at Collett Park Day by artists, adults, and children to raise money for SOS Africa. Cards painted by African children from an Art Club run by SOS Africa in one of their schools will also be on display. All the work and the postcards are available to buy, supporting this fantastic cause.
Dates and Times
The exhibition will be open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between 10am and 4pm until Saturday, September 3.
A Hub of Creativity
Since its inauguration in October last year, Create@#8 has become a hub for diverse and eclectic creative talent. Previous events have included an artist residency and solo show by local artist Fiona Campbell, an immersive installation by the artist group of three - Social Scaffolding, and various workshops by local artists, writers, and creatives.
About SMart
SMart is a not-for-profit community interest company that supports and promotes art, artists, and creativity in the Shepton Mallet area and beyond.
Don't miss this unique opportunity to support local artists and a wonderful charity while indulging in Shepton Mallet's rich cultural offerings.
