Shepton Mallet Town Council has submitted a planning application to Somerset Council for the installation of a digital noticeboard in Collett Park.

The noticeboard is intended to share information about Town Council activities, promote community events, and highlight local businesses.

The proposed noticeboard would be situated alongside the toilets, facing into the park, and embedded into the soft ground beside the tarmac path. Designed with an illuminated display, it will be programmed to blank out during night-time hours to minimise potential light pollution on local wildlife, and no sound will be emitted.

According to the application, the new noticeboard also aligns with the council's objectives of maintaining Collett Park's prestigious Green Flag status.

Somerset Council is expected to have reached a decision on the application by August 28.
