Shepton Mallet school uniform giveaway opens for families

A free school uniform and supplies giveaway is being held in Shepton Mallet to help families get ready for the new term. Shepton Waste Action Group is organising the event on Saturday, 8 August, from 10 am to noon, with two High Street venues taking part.

Families will be able to collect donated uniform and school supplies from 50 The High Street, used by SWAG, and 57 The High Street, used by Mind. The event is open to new and existing parents and carers of school-age children.

The giveaway will cover items linked to local schools including St Paul's, Shepton Infants, Bowlish Infants, Whitstone, Oakhill, St Aldhelm's, Ditcheat, Croscombe and Evercreech. Organisers have said they will confirm which school uniforms will be available at which of the two venues in the week leading up to the event.

Donation points have now opened in Shepton Mallet for anyone with outgrown uniform or spare school supplies. Items can be dropped at Shepton Mallet Town Council on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9.30 am to 4 pm, or at Art Bank from Wednesday to Saturday between 10 am and 3 pm.

The final day for donations is Friday, 7 August. Organisers are asking for uniform, PE kits, shoes in good condition, pencils, pens, pencil cases, paper, books, bags and study materials.

Shepton Waste Action Group said it was holding its first school uniform and supplies giveaway for the whole community. The group is encouraging residents to pass on items that could be used by other families instead of being left unused at home.

The Town Council office is at the top of the High Street, between Tesco and Collett Park. Families and donors are being urged to check the event details before attending, as the school uniform locations will be confirmed closer to Saturday, 8 August.
