A Shepton Mallet road is closing to traffic for 33 days while gas mains replacement work is carried out. Eastfield is due to be closed from Monday, 21 September until Friday, 23 October while Wales & West Utilities completes the work.

Somerset Council has made a temporary traffic order covering Eastfield from its junction with Shaftgate Avenue eastwards for the entire length of the road. The affected stretch measures around 253 metres.

The restriction allows Wales & West Utilities to carry out gas mains replacement works, with the closure scheduled to apply throughout the day for the duration of the work. The council's notice states that the works are expected to last a total of 33 days.

Drivers will need to use an alternative route while the restriction is in place. Details of the diversion are available through the traffic information service One.Network, with Wales & West Utilities handling enquiries about the works.

The temporary order itself came into effect on Wednesday, 16 September, and can remain legally in force for up to 18 months, although the scheduled work on Eastfield is currently expected to finish on Friday, 23 October.
