Shepton Mallet Parkinson's exercise programme launches
By Laura Linham 21st Sep 2026
People living with Parkinson's in Shepton Mallet are being offered access to a new exercise programme designed to help them stay active from home.
The Parkinson's Coach features more than 50 pre-recorded exercise videos covering balance, strength, mobility, coordination and agility, as well as stretching and meditation sessions.
The online programme has been created by personal trainer and exercise coach Katie Thompson, who was inspired to focus on Parkinson's after her father-in-law was diagnosed with the condition in 2018.
Sessions have different intensity levels and adaptations, allowing people to choose exercises suited to their ability and build up at their own pace. Users can also decide when to exercise and repeat sessions as often as they wish.
The programme includes guidance on incorporating movement into everyday life and exercising with Parkinson's, alongside an online community, challenges and training tips.
Katie said: "I know that getting started with exercise can feel daunting, particularly if someone is worried about their balance or ability to keep up in a traditional class.
"I wanted to create something simple and easy to follow that gives people the knowledge, support and flexibility to exercise in a way that works for them, whatever their starting point."
She said the programme was intended to be used alongside medical care and physiotherapy rather than as a replacement for professional treatment.
Katie added: "Most importantly, I want to help people find a way of moving that feels achievable and that they genuinely enjoy – something they look forward to and can make part of everyday life."
Because the sessions are online, people can take part from home at a time which suits them, rather than needing to travel to a scheduled class.
New users can access a seven-day free trial before deciding whether to take out membership.
