Police are cracking down on illegal electric bikes after reports of Sur-Ron riders tearing through Collett Park in Shepton Mallet.
The powerful off-road bikes, often used without insurance or licences, have been spotted being ridden at speed in the popular green space – sparking safety fears for families and dog walkers.
Officers say Sur-Ron bikes are classed as off-road electric motorcycles and cannot be used on public roads, pavements or parks unless fully road-legal and insured. Anyone caught riding one illegally risks having it seized and facing fines or prosecution.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team has stepped up foot patrols in the park and across town to tackle the issue.
Police said: "Collett Park is a space for families, children and walkers. Riding electric bikes here puts pedestrians at serious risk of injury."
Residents are urged to report sightings of illegal riding via 101 or online. If there's immediate danger, call 999.
