Children in Shepton Mallet are being offered a free chance to get hands‑on with gardening and learn about composting next month, organisers have announced.
Dobbies garden centre on Wells Road is hosting its latest Little Seedlings Club workshop on Sunday 1 February 2026, where young gardeners can discover the benefits of composting through interactive activities designed for children.
The session will introduce youngsters to what compost is, the difference between green and brown waste, and what can and cannot be composted. They will also take part in a practical challenge to create their own mini compost bottle and learn tips on starting a compost heap at home, even in small spaces.
Ayesha Nickson, events programme manager at Dobbies, said the February workshop would help children "learn all about the interesting and practical ways waste can be reused, and be inspired about composting, gardening and looking out for nature."
Children will take home their own compost bottles to use in their gardens, organisers said. Places for the session can be reserved via the Dobbies website.
The Little Seedlings Club runs monthly at Dobbies' Shepton Mallet store and covers a variety of seasonal gardening topics aimed at encouraging young people to engage with nature.
