Shepton Mallet Town Council invites community groups to apply for grants by 14 March, supporting local initiatives with up to £2,000 available.

Community groups in Shepton Mallet are being urged to get their applications in as the town council opens its latest round of community grants, with a March deadline now confirmed.

Shepton Mallet Town Council has opened applications for its community grants scheme, which provides financial support to local organisations working to improve life for residents. The current funding round closes on 14 March.

The scheme is open to properly formed community groups, clubs, committees and charities, with funding available to support new ideas, keep existing services running or act as match funding for larger projects. The council says applicants must be able to show clear community benefit for people living in Shepton Mallet.

Three types of grants are available. One-off small grants offer between £1 and £500 for revenue costs, while one-off large grants provide between £501 and £2,000 and can be used for revenue or capital spending. Strategic grants are also available in exceptional cases, offering longer-term funding where the council believes a service is critical to the wellbeing of the town.

Applicants are required to set out what their project will deliver, who it will benefit and how success will be measured. The process also asks groups to demonstrate good governance, financial transparency and compliance with safeguarding, equality and insurance requirements where relevant.

The council says the grants scheme plays an important role in supporting grassroots activity across Shepton Mallet, helping local organisations turn ideas into action and continue services relied on by the community.

Full details of the scheme and the application form are available via the town council, with groups advised to apply in good time ahead of the March deadline.
