Forklifts to front desks: Jobs doing the rounds near Shepton Mallet
By Laura Linham 6th Feb 2026
If you're somewhere between "this'll do for now" and "I'd be gone by Friday if the right thing cropped up", you're in good company.
This week's batch of local jobs stretches from warehouses and care homes to spreadsheets and sacred ruins — all within reasonable striking distance of Shepton Mallet.
Start with something solid and refreshingly straightforward: Full-time Warehouse / Stores Assistant – JPAT, Upper Langford. This one's based in Upper Langford and deals in automatic transmission parts — torque converters, remanufactured bits and shelves that need knowing. Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm, competitive pay depending on experience, plus pension and accident/illness cover. Picking, packing, booking stock in and keeping things running smoothly. No nonsense, no weekend rotas.
If you're feeling ambitious (or just ready for a very grown-up challenge), Director – Glastonbury Abbey is now open. Glastonbury Abbey is looking for a new Director following the retirement of Janet Bell MBE. Permanent, based in Glastonbury, paying £66,445–£70,137 FTE, and covering everything from conservation and visitor experience to commercial performance and community engagement. Not one for testing the waters — but a rare and serious local opportunity.
Prefer your workdays with wheels rather than emails? There's a Driver Representative – Glastonbury role offering £55,000 a year. No cold calling, no door knocking — all appointments are pre-booked. You'll be taking measurements, carrying out surveys and showing samples. Think demo kits and polite chats, not takeaway bags and time pressure.
Over in Street, the spreadsheets are calling with a Data Analyst – Merchandising, Street role based at head office (BA16 0EQ). Permanent position, focused on turning numbers into decisions that actually mean something. Salary's not listed, but if dashboards make sense to you and forecasting doesn't induce eye-rolling, it's one to consider.
Wells has a tidy office-based option with a Service Administrator (Contract) – JLA Group, Wells role paying £24,000 a year. You'll be logging service jobs, handling customer enquiries, chasing engineer paperwork and prepping invoices. Structured, admin-heavy, and far less chaotic than most places with a shared printer.
For hands-on work with decent earning potential, Installer – Hillarys, Wells area is worth a look. Hillarys offer flexible full or part-time work, £50k earning potential, and a setup that suits people who like independence without total freefall. Measuring windows, fitting blinds, going home.
At the serious end of the scale, Site Technical Manager – Mars Petcare, Castle Cary is a heavyweight role. Mars Petcare are after someone to lead engineering and maintenance teams, manage million-pound budgets and keep a major FMCG site running smoothly. Permanent, demanding, and very much a "proper job".
And finally, one that actually makes a difference: Activity Co-ordinator – Somerset Care, Castle Cary. Somerset Care are offering £13.26 an hour with enhanced weekend rates, full training provided, and a role focused on making residents' days brighter — not just filling time. Wagestream, Blue Light Card discounts and real support included.
