Shepton Mallet crime rises sharply in March

Crime recorded in Shepton Mallet Town rose sharply in March 2026, with police figures showing 138 offences during the month.
That was 54 more than in February, when 84 crimes were recorded.
The biggest category in March was violent crime, with 67 offences logged in the town. That was up from 40 the month before.
Violent crime can include assaults, threats of violence and some harassment-related offences.
Public order offences remained unchanged, with 16 recorded in both February and March. These offences can include threatening, abusive or disorderly behaviour in public.
Anti-social behaviour also rose in March, from eight reports to 15. This category often covers nuisance behaviour, intimidation, harassment or activity causing alarm in public places.
Criminal damage and arson increased from six offences to eight. That can include damage to homes, vehicles, businesses or public property.
Shoplifting also rose, from three offences in February to eight in March.
Other theft rose slightly, from three to four. This category covers theft offences that are not counted separately as burglary, shoplifting, robbery or vehicle crime.
Vehicle crime increased from three offences to five. This can include theft from vehicles, theft of vehicles or interference with vehicles.
Possession of weapons rose from one offence in February to four in March.
Burglary fell from four offences to two. Burglary involves unlawful entry into a building with intent to steal, cause damage or commit another offence.
Drug offences appeared in the March figures, with two recorded. None were listed in the February figures provided.
One robbery was recorded in March. Robbery involves theft using force, or the threat of force.
Six offences were listed as other crime, a category used for offences that do not fit the main headings.
The figures are monthly recorded crime statistics for Shepton Mallet Town.
The data also notes that it can take up to 30 days for the previous month's statistics to become available.
