A major decision on the future of The Coach House in Shepton Mallet will be made tomorrow night.
Shepton Mallet Town Council will meet at 7pm on Tuesday, 9 December, to vote on whether to buy the disused Coach House in a deal worth up to £500,000.
The proposal would see the property transformed into a new council headquarters with added space for community use. A confidential offer has already been submitted, and the council is seeking to approve the purchase in principle.
The meeting, to be held at Shape on Cannards Grave Road, will include a confidential session due to the commercial nature of the negotiations.
If approved, officers will be authorised to press ahead with legal checks, building surveys, and price negotiations. Two independent valuations are already under way, and a further report will come back to Full Council in July 2026.
The Coach House is currently on the rental market. The council hopes to bring it back into use as a civic and public facility by 2028.
The next scheduled Full Council meeting is Tuesday, 13 January 2026.
