Shepton Mallet Carnival returns on Wednesday 12 November 2025 with a 7.30pm start, as part of the Somerset Guy Fawkes Circuit. Over 100 entries will light up the streets — from single masqueraders to huge illuminated carts.

Here's your detailed guide to make sure you get there early, find the best spot, park for free (if you can), and enjoy every moment.

Start time & route

The lights go on at 7.30pm, with the procession beginning outside Mendip Council Offices. The parade travels along Cannards Grave Road (A37), Townsend, Old Market Road, Commercial Road, Paul Street, Charlton Road, finishing at 40 Whitstone Road, which closes at 7.30pm. (sterile safety zone at St Paul's Street between Nat West/Thomas Cook and Phillips Tyres). For photography and less crowded viewing, Charlton Road and Whitstone Road are recommended.

Where to park & how to get there

  • Tesco at Townsend Retail Park: car parking from 4pm to 11pm on carnival night; the normal three‑hour limit is lifted.
  • Haskins car park: fees waived; exit controls apply.
  • Old Market Road & Great Ostry car parks: usual fees until 6pm.
  • From the east: use Dobbies or B & M car parks, then walk in; those car parks remain open until about 11pm.

Disabled access & viewing

A limited number of spaces are available for spectators who need to stay in their vehicle; these must be booked in advance through the Shepton Mallet Carnival committee. Cost: £5, programme included.

Accessible toilets are at the main public conveniences; portable toilets placed at Park Road (opposite the Cenotaph) and Charlton Road near the Leisure Centre. For more information, head to sheptonmalletcarnival.org.uk

Road closures & travel advice
