Shepton carnival seeks 1,000 supporters to help cover rising costs
By Laura Linham 8th Oct 2026
Shepton Mallet Carnival is asking 1,000 people to donate £5 each to help cover the cost of bringing the procession to town this November.
Organisers say staging the event costs around £15,000, including first aid, road closures, insurance, safety equipment and licences. The carnival returns on Wednesday, 18 November, at 7.30pm.
The supporter scheme is intended to help meet those costs while allowing the whole carnival-night street collection to continue going to charities and local organisations.
Supporters receive a 2026 programme and can have their name displayed on the carnival website. Programme collection arrangements will be announced, with collection expected in late October or early November.
The committee says rising costs and limited fundraising opportunities have prompted the appeal. It also raises money throughout the year, receives sponsorship and collects trading fees from food vendors.
New committee members are wanted to help with preparations and carnival night. Anyone interested can email [email protected].
Residents can join the £5 supporter scheme online.
