Plans to build a new house and garden studio on the site of a current home and store in Neighbourne have been refused by Mendip District Council.

The planning application for the construction of a new dwelling and garden studio following demolition of existing dwelling and garden store, and change of use of land adjacent to the house to be within residential curtilage of the dwelling at Hill Top, Blackey Lane to Withy Lane, Neighbourne, had been submitted by Simon Wellby.

The proposal was to demolish the existing bungalow and neighbouring barn, and build a two-storey home and studio for the owners' leisure pursuits on the plot to provide them with a more accessible and adaptable house and workspace.

However, in turning down the application, the planning offer said the scale, mass and form, and landscape impact of the new two-storey dwelling and the large ancillary building would be considered to be harmful to the landscape character.
