Residents of Shepton Mallet and beyond have a stylish new bar to enjoy in the form of Pillars 501 which has opened right at the heart of the town in the Market Place.

With the help of Luxe and Twine Interiors - also based in Shepton Mallet - the building has been transformed into a chic, art deco-style venue and forms part of a regeneration project taking place in Shepton Mallet with many new retail outlets now trading in the area.

Gin is, naturally, the star of the show at Pillars 501 with around 60 varieties currently on offer, and plans for many more).

However, a fully stocked bar also offers a choice of beers, ciders (including locally-sourced Mallets Cider), wines and spirits.

Overseeing a team of bartenders, director Ned Lloyd James said: "I've been lucky to travel all over the world and I'm bringing my experiences of different products, flavours and techniques to Pillars 501.

"The bar has been transformed into a really special venue but we've got exciting plans ahead too, so watch this space."

First on that list is the Pillars 501 New Year's Eve party - tickets will available from the bar for £10 per person, which includes free drink.

Pillars 501 is currently open on Thursdays 4pm to 10pm, Friday/Saturdays 4pm to midnight and Sundays noon to 10pm.
