Nominations Open for Shepton Mallet Business Awards

The Shepton Mallet Business Awards are currently accepting nominations, providing an opportunity to recognise local businesses and entrepreneurs for their contributions to the community. This annual event highlights the efforts and achievements of businesses in Shepton Mallet and surrounding areas.

The nomination process, which commenced on Monday, 15th January, will remain open until Sunday, 11th February. Eligible businesses include those located in Shepton Mallet, Pylle, Prestleigh, Evercreech, Pilton, Oakhill, Croscombe, or Doulting.

Nominations can be submitted online via the Shepton Mallet Town Council website, and paper forms are available at the Town Council Offices.

The awards feature eight categories, each acknowledging different sectors and contributions within the local business community:

  1. New Business: For businesses opened since September 2020.
  2. Hospitality: Recognising cafes, restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, etc.
  3. Food and Drink Producers: Including cider producers, cheese makers, etc.
  4. Retail and Professional Service Business: Covering a range of businesses from shops to home-based businesses, architects, plumbers, etc.
  5. Manufacture and Production: Recognising businesses involved in woodwork, metal work, and similar areas.
  6. Wellbeing, Sports and Leisure: Including yoga classes, gyms, parkrun, walking groups, etc.
  7. Arts, Culture and Heritage: For tourist attractions, art centres, etc.
  8. Community Groups: Encompassing charities, CICs, and similar organisations.

A panel of independent judges, comprising local business leaders and professionals, will evaluate the nominations. This year's panel includes Susan Ayton, Trish Mason, and Nicola Fensham, each bringing a wealth of experience to the judging process.

Business owners in the area are encouraged to engage with their customers, clients, or followers and seek their support in the nominations. Promotional materials, such as 'Vote for us' posters, are available for businesses to use.

The Shepton Mallet Business Awards offer a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the vital role local businesses play in supporting and enriching the community. Winners will be announced following the nomination period, recognising the significant contributions made by businesses across the region.
