This weekend, Shepton Mallet is bustling with a variety of events, offering something for everyone.
From musical performances to creative workshops and a massive flea market, the town is set to host a range of exciting activities. As always, we'd like to say thank you to the Bath and West Showground, who sponsor Shepton Mallet Nub News for all their support.
Croscombe Village Orchestra Concert
On Saturday, 20th January, the Croscombe Village Orchestra is set to present their Winter Concert at the Croscombe Village Hall (BA5 3RA). The evening will feature a delightful selection of music by Schubert, Haydn, Mozart, and Britten, with a special performance by guest soloist Simon Naylor. The concert starts at 7 pm and includes an interval with a raffle and refreshments. Admission is £5 for adults and £2 for those under 14, available at the door.
Art & Words Workshop with Polly Hall
Also on Saturday, 20th January, from 10 am to 4 pm, there's an Art & Words Workshop led by Polly Hall. This creative session, taking place at 8 Town Street, Shepton Mallet, promises to be a stimulating experience for those interested in art and literature.
Hornblotton Wassail and Ceilidh
For a unique cultural experience, head over to Orchard Park Farm, Hornblotton Green, for the Hornblotton Wassail and Ceilidh. This event, happening on Saturday from 5 pm to 10 pm, is an excellent opportunity to enjoy traditional festivities and dance.
Giant Flea Market at The Bath & West Showground
The highlight of the weekend is undoubtedly the Giant Flea Market at The Bath & West Showground on Sunday, 21st January, starting at 9:30 am. Celebrating over 20 years of success, the market features over 250 indoor and outdoor stalls. You can find retro furniture, vintage clothing, garden statuary, arts & crafts, jewellery, books, toys, sweets, clothes, music, fabrics, and much more. Admission is £5.00 per adult, with accompanied children entering for free. The event also offers a restaurant, café, and outdoor food court for when you need a break.
The Giant Flea Market, a family-run event, has been a part of Shepton Mallet's culture for over two decades. It is renowned for its vast array of items and is a favorite among both traders and the public. With easy parking and on-site banking facilities, it makes for a perfect day out for the entire family.
