New Somerset Supply Chain website aims to connect local businesses with £23.6 million Glastonbury revamp
A new digital platform, the Somerset Supply Chain website, has been launched by the Somerset Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Glastonbury Town Deal team within Somerset Council.
The aim is to connect local businesses with work opportunities funded by the £23.6 million allocated for Glastonbury's revitalisation. This comes as Glastonbury was selected among 101 towns to receive investment from the Government's Towns Fund, as part of the Levelling Up agenda.
Emma Rawlings, Chief Executive of Somerset Chamber of Commerce, described the development as a "once-in-a-generation opportunity for local businesses."
She said, "By registering on the new Somerset Supply Chain website, we can ensure their capabilities are matched to upcoming tenders, making it easier for businesses to win work and for contractors to find the skills they need."
A total of 11 government-approved projects are in various stages of planning and execution as part of this grand scheme. They include:
- Regeneration of Baily's Buildings
- Creation of a Glastonbury Enterprise and Innovation Hub at Beckery House
- Regeneration of Red Brick Building C to establish The Life Factory, a skills and creative space
- Investment in renewable energy generation
- Refurbishment of the Sports Hub
- Launch of the Robert Richards Initiative, a programme focused on education, training, and green infrastructure
- Upgrades to the Glastonbury Abbey Piazza to enhance visitor experience
- Establishment of an educational visitor destination at St Brigid's Chapel and Field
- Creation of a Glastonbury Food and Regenerative Farming Centre
- Development of a new health and wellbeing centre in St Dunstan's House, adjacent to the town hall
Dr Lynne Sedgmore, Chair of the Glastonbury Town Deal Board, encouraged local businesses to register on the Somerset Supply Chain website. "These are very exciting times for Glastonbury and we're keen to get as many local businesses involved as possible," she said.
Local businesses interested in tapping into these opportunities can visit the Somerset Supply Chain website at www.somersetsupplychain.co.uk or find more information about the Glastonbury Town Deal at www.glastonburytowndeal.co.uk. Enquiries can also be emailed to [email protected].
