Shepton Mallet is witnessing a significant event in its local history with the recent opening of Montigo Resorts, Somerset at Charlton House.

Charlton House Hotel and Spa was previously owned by Duncan Bannatyne, had been put on the market in 2021 for £4m, but sold for £3.1 million at the end of February to Kop Limited, who own Montigo Resorts in Nongsa and Seminyak in Indonesia as well as Wintastar Shanghai and Dalvey House in Singapore.

The launch event was marked by the presence of numerous local dignitaries, including the Rt Hon James Heappey, Minister of State for the Armed Forces and MP for Wells, Cllr Tanys Pullin, Mayor of Wells, Cllr Indra Donfrancesco, Mayor of Glastonbury, and Chairman of The Street Parish Council, Cllr Bryan Knickerbocker.

KOP Limited, the new owners of the estate, aim to honour the property's history and integrate it into the fabric of the local community.

Since acquiring the property in March this year, the company has significantly improved its facilities using local businesses and materials. Further enhancements to the property are planned.

The estate offers a range of amenities for guests and visitors. These include various dining options, a spa with treatment rooms and a fitness centre, and expansive indoor and outdoor spaces. The property also has 28 individually designed bedrooms and suites, each featuring a unique blend of traditional and modern elements.

As well as serving as a place for rest and relaxation, Montigo Resorts, Somerset at Charlton House is also set up to host a variety of special events with dedicated spaces perfect for weddings, parties, corporate retreats and other functions.

KOP Limited has also launched the Charlton House Membershi which offers access to a variety of the resort's facilities, along with special discounts for food and beverages. The company also plans to roll out additional services in the future, such as a 'dog grooming spa' in partnership with celebrity dog groomer, Kelly Davis.
