The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed the most popular baby names in Mendip for the year 2022.

Florence and Isla lead the pack for girls, each being chosen by seven families.

These names have overtaken Luna, which was the top pick in 2021 with eight occurrences.

On the boys' side, Arthur and Jude have become the favourites, each with nine newborns named in 2022, dethroning George, which was selected by 15 families the previous year.

James Tucker, head of health analysis at the ONS, commented on national trends: "Noah was the most popular name for boys in 2022, for the second year in a row, having replaced Oliver at the top in 2021." He further noted that Muhammad climbed to the second spot from fifth in the previous year, whereas George maintained his position at third. The rankings saw Oliver fall to fourth place and Leo ascend to fifth.

"For the girls across England and Wales, the top four remained unchanged with Olivia leading, followed by Amelia, Isla, and Ava. Lily made a notable jump, rising from seventh to fifth place.

"Theodore, Theo, and Freddie are three new entries into the top 10 boys' names in 2022. Isabella is the only new entry into the girls' top 10," Mr Tucker added.

This year's baby naming trends reflect a diverse mix of traditional and contemporary choices, highlighting the varied preferences of parents in Mendip and across the nation.
