Luxury rail on the right track as East Somerset Railway welcomes surprise guests

The East Somerset Railway will be treated to a brush with luxury this week, following two impressive mainline locomotives making an evening appearance at Cranmore Station.
The special visitors—locomotives 66751 and 57310—pulled in as part of a test run for the ultra-luxurious Belmond Britannic Explorer, on a new three-night rail experience whisking guests through Cornwall in opulent style.
Normally home to heritage engines and vintage carriages, the sight of modern mainline stock on the preserved East Somerset Railway line was a rare treat—and one that caused a stir among staff and rail enthusiasts alike.
"It's not often we see this kind of equipment on our heritage railway," the team at East Somerset Railway said. "It made for a truly memorable moment and we're proud to have played a small role in supporting such an exciting project."
The Belmond Britannic Explorer promises a first-class journey through the West Country, combining luxury dining, scenic routes and impeccable service.
The East Somerset Railway continues to run regular services and special events from its base near Cranmore, celebrating Somerset's rail heritage one steam journey at a time.
