A lorry was destroyed in a fire in Stoke St Michael yesterday morning (February 21).

Just before 9.30am, a fire appliance from Shepton Mallet, one from Wells and the water carrier from Yeovil were sent to a report of a lorry on fire at Long Cross Bottom.

On arrival crews confirmed that there were no persons involved but that the lorry was well alight. The tractor unit was destroyed by fire and the trailer unit was 30 per cent damaged.

To extinguish the fire crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and a compressed air foam jet.
