A new 20mph speed limit has been proposed for a raft of streets in Wanstrow in a bid to further improve road safety – with a consultation set to end in two days.

Somerset County Council said 20mph schemes have been shown to be effective in reducing collisions and greatly improving safety.

They also carry the additional benefits of enhancing air quality and making it safer for residents to leave the car at home and walk or cycle, which we know can have a huge impact on the environment and our health.

The authority also claims a lower, safer speed, with fewer accelerations and decelerations would improve air quality and reduce carbon emissions.

The order would the lower speed limit to 20mph in:

  • Church Street to Lower Lane - from a point 36 metres northwest of the junction with Tower View in a south-easterly direction to the junction with Church Street.
  • The entirety of Church Street
  • The Street -fFrom the junction with the A359 Station Road in an easterly direction to a point 20 metres west of the junction with Bridge Hill
  • All of Coronation Close
  • All of Wesley Close

If you want to have your say on the proposals, you need to contact Somerset County Council at Somerset County Council, Traffic Management, B2 West, County Hall, Taunton, TA1 4DY, quoting Reference No. ET22082022 or by email [email protected] before February 2.
