Key road near Shepton Mallet closed for weeks as safety works get under way

A key road near Shepton Mallet has been shut for more than two weeks as Somerset Council carries out drainage works to improve safety.
Whitstone Hill in Pilton closed at 9.30am on Tuesday 9 July and is set to stay shut until 11.59pm on Thursday 25 July.
The works are part of a major highway repair and maintenance project, focusing on drainage improvements to prevent water building up on the carriageway.
The closure is being carried out under permit reference LG0171285035-A-02, with the council confirming the works were officially under way as of 9 July.
The road is completely closed to traffic for the duration. The footway remains open, but a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is in place to enforce the shutdown.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and plan ahead while the closure is in place.
Somerset Council said it will "do its utmost to minimise disruption" — but confirmed the works will continue until the end of the month unless finished earlier.
