A road in Doulting has been closed after a van got stuck in floodwater this morning (February 20).

Just after 11.15am, two fire appliances from Shepton Mallet were sent to a report of a man stuck in his vehicle in floodwater at Merryfield Lane, Doulting.

On arrival crews confirmed that the van was stuck in approximately one metre of floodwater. Fire crews rescued the man using personal floatation devices and general purpose lines.

The man was taken to a nearby house where the kind occupiers offered him a cup of tea and chance to warm up while waiting for a friend to pick him up.

The vehicle has been left in situ awaiting recovery and the road is now closed due to floodwater.
