Shepton Mallet Town Council is urging drivers to help keep the High Street clear every Friday from 6am to 3pm to allow the weekly market to go ahead safely.

The lower half of High Street is closed to traffic during these hours, and all parked vehicles must be moved by 6am. The council says the road closure is vital to ensure enough space for emergency vehicles, waste collection lorries, and market traders to operate without obstruction.

"We're asking all residents and visitors to please support the market by moving their cars early each Friday," said a council spokesperson. "It's a small action that makes a big difference to the safety and success of one of the town's oldest traditions."
