Local job round-up: chefs, carers and technicians are in demand this week

New jobs across Wells, Street and Glastonbury include roles in care, catering, education and engineering.
New jobs across Wells, Street and Glastonbury include roles in care, catering, education and engineering.

Whether you're chasing a career move or just need something solid that fits around your life, there's a decent mix on offer — including care work with purpose, kitchens with perks, and a couple of tidy earners for those handy with tools or timetables.

In Glastonbury, a care home is on the lookout for a Night Care Assistant, offering £12.60 to £13.25 per hour. Ideal if you're calm under pressure, don't mind late hours and like making a difference while the rest of the world sleeps. A Day Care Assistant role is also going, with the same pay, for those who prefer their shifts in daylight and their tea breaks at reasonable hours.

Millfield School in Street is after a Sous Chef — £30k salary, plus daytime hours, staff perks and the promise of no Gordon Ramsay theatrics. Over at Prezzo, they're hiring for a Chef on £12.50 to £13/hr plus tronc, and a Front of House Supervisor to run the floor like a pro at just under £13/hr.

If teaching's more your speed, UCS College Group has a Maths Lecturer post at £36,202. Part-time or full-time, this one might suit anyone who's ever explained percentages to a teenager without crying.

Elsewhere in Evercreech, there's decent money on offer for a qualified HGV Technician — up to £46,425.60 a year for 45 hours a week, with possible flexibility if you're not up for the full grind.

Mars Petcare in Castle Cary is looking for a Maintenance Planner. If the acronyms SAP and TPM mean something to you — and you know the difference between preventative and panic repair — the salary range of £39.6k to £45.4k might catch your eye.

The City of Wells Almshouses is hiring a part-time Admin Officer, up to £25k pro rata, handling everything from diary clashes to housing queries — in an organisation that's been helping locals since before the phrase "admin officer" even existed.

If you like things a little looser, you could try Uber Eats delivery — no shifts, no uniform, just you, your wheels, and the occasional awkward driveway. Or if you're practical and want to get stuck into real work, a local Installer job near Wells is offering up to £50k, with flexible hours and room to make it your own.

And if shop floors are more your thing, a Field Merchandiser role around Wells pays £12.40/hr, Monday to Friday — rearranging displays and fixing shelf chaos without the joyless beep of a checkout scanner.

It's not every week the job board offers this much variety — and if none of these suit, there are plenty more listings where they came from. Worth a scroll, whether you're rethinking your 9–5 or just need something that actually covers the rent.
