Bruton's Osip has been named Restaurant of the Year by The Good Food Guide.

The farm-to-table restaurant, run by chef Merlin Labron-Johnson, took the top spot after multiple anonymous visits by the guide's inspectors, who praised its hyper-seasonal approach and flavour-driven dishes.

The winners were revealed at the annual Good Food Guide 2025 Awards, held on Monday, February 3 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.

Osip operates without a menu—diners are served a sequence of dishes based entirely on what has arrived from the farm that morning. The restaurant focuses on homegrown vegetables, wild herbs, and locally sourced game, reflecting a deep connection to the Somerset landscape. Labron-Johnson, who trained in Michelin-starred kitchens across Europe, opened Osip in 2019. Despite its small size, the restaurant quickly gained national recognition, earning a Michelin star in January 2021, just eight months after opening.

According to Chloë Hamilton, editor of The Good Food Guide, the decision to name Osip as the UK's top restaurant was incredibly close. She said: "More so now than ever, Merlin's cooking offers a sense of place that leaps off the plate with a stunning clarity of flavour. Our decision was down to the wire, but the latest of our multiple (anonymous) visits to Osip's new home in January was a showcase of style and confidence; totally aspirational but without unnecessary frills or a huge price tag."

Osip beat tough competition to take the title, with other shortlisted restaurants including Restaurant Jericho in Leicestershire, St John in London, Opheem in Birmingham and The Ritz Restaurant in London. The awards were hosted by TV presenter Richard Bacon, a well-known restaurant enthusiast.

For food lovers in Somerset, Osip's latest accolade confirms what many already knew—this tiny Bruton restaurant is among the best in the country.
