The Ashwick & Oakhill Village Hall near Shepton has received three awards at the Somerset Community Buildings Conference 2023, adding to their previous recognitions.

The volunteer team has now achieved Hallmark Level 2 and Level 3 awards, demonstrating their commitment to best practices in governance, health & safety, security, and community engagement. These awards are significant for securing future funding and investment.

The hall's treasurer, Caroline Ambrose, was also awarded 'Trustee Of The Year' for her contributions, particularly in developing the Oakleaf Community Cafe.

This cafe, a result of a £90,000 fundraising effort by the trustees, operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It has been awarded a Food Hygiene Level 5 rating, with its profits reinvested into the Village Hall.

With the cafe's growing popularity, the hall is seeking additional volunteers to help maintain this community space. Interested parties can contact the team via email at [email protected].
