An arrest has been made in connection with an arson attack that severely damaged play equipment at Collett Park in Shepton Mallet.

The incident, which occurred in July, took place shortly after the park's play area had been revamped and reopened to the public.

The individual arrested in connection with the attack has been released on conditional bail as the investigation continues.

Meanwhile, the damaged play equipment remains in place at the park, pending replacement or repair.

At the time of the fire, Shepton Mallet Town Council expressed its disappointment at the deliberate damage caused to the park. In a statement, the council said, "While we are obviously very disappointed at the deliberate damage in the park, we are working to quickly put it right and ensure that the rest of the park remains a wonderful space for people to play and enjoy their time."

The police are actively seeking additional information regarding the incident. They encourage anyone with knowledge of the event who has not yet spoken with them to come forward. Information can be provided by calling 101 and quoting the reference 5223164140,
