Annual Christmas shoebox appeal back in Shepton Mallet Tesco
The spirit of giving is in the air as the annual Christmas Shoebox Appeal returns to Tesco in Shepton Mallet.
Following a life-changing trip in 2019 to distribute shoeboxes to those in need, organiser Sarah Baker and her team are rallying support for the cause again.
The collection and donation bin is already in place behind the tills at Tesco. This year, the appeal is supporting a local charity that sends boxes filled with essentials and treats to abandoned children in orphanages, students in poor rural schools and kindergartens, women in refuges, prisoners' children, housebound elderly people, and refugee centres in Bulgaria and Serbia.
What sets this project apart is its all-encompassing nature; shoeboxes are sent to adults and children.
Sarah Baker said, "Something that we really love about this project is that they send shoeboxes to adults as well as children in need. Thank you all for your support each year, if you are shopping and feel able to add something extra to your trolley and then pop it in the collection bin behind the tills we would be hugely grateful - it really does make a massive difference."
Donors are encouraged to add toiletries (excluding aerosols), stationary, warm socks, sweets, and children's toys such as balls, bubbles, and dolls to their shopping lists. Household items like sewing kits, candles, and baby products like teethers, bibs, and wipes are also welcome.
The collection bin will remain in place until Monday, 6th November, giving locals ample time to contribute. "We are so grateful to Tesco for their ongoing support. Thank you all in advance," added Baker.
So, consider adding something extra to your basket next time you're in Tesco. Every little helps, and your generosity could brighten someone's holiday season in a big way.
