Shepton Mallet has a plethora of activities scheduled for the upcoming bank holiday weekend, offering something for all ages and interests.
One of the highlights is the Commission Festival, taking place from Thursday 24th to Monday 28th August at the Bath & West Showground. In 2023, the Commission family is gathering for the first time in four years for a festival that promises more than just entertainment. It's an opportunity to encounter God, foster relationships, build faith, and potentially make lifelong friendships and memories. Aimed at inspiring the next generation and anyone interested in spiritual growth, the festival welcomes not only those from Commission churches but also anyone looking to explore faith.
Art enthusiasts won't want to miss Bruton Art Society's 70th Annual Exhibition on Friday, 25th August from 10:00 to 16:00 at King's Bruton, Plox in Bruton.
Food lovers can head to the Summer BBQ at TIIGO at Montigo Resorts Somerset at Charlton House, from 12:00 to 18:00 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Seasonal meats, fish, and vegetables will be grilled before your very eyes as cider's poured and memories are shared in a laid-back environment oozing rustic charm.
Families have the East Somerset Railway's Bank Holiday Family Fun from Saturday 26th to Monday 28th August. Steam and diesel trains are running, a miniature railway, bouncy castle, Punch & Judy shows and stalls.
Music fans can enjoy Open Road at The Charlton Inn on Saturday 26th August at 20:00, playing a wide selection of rock, indie and lots of other awesome music. Something for everyone from the 60's to current day. Links to Killers, Nirvana to Neil Young, Stereophonics to Saw Doctors and the Animals to AC/DC.
For those seeking thrills, the Shepton Mallet Prison Ghost Hunt is from Saturday 26th to Sunday 27th August, and Sunday offers a host of activities including August Anarchy in The Market Place from 10:00 to 15:00. it's a family-friendly day out. The title is a nod to this months' Steampunk-themed fancy dress competition. Open to all adults and children (under 12yrs) with prizes and certificates. They also have music for all ages and tastes. Stalls selling wonderful products ranging from street food, crafts, jewellery, cakes and more.
Or, you can head to the Prestleigh Inn at 3pm for a foot tappin' time, thanks to live music from the Coyote Country Band.
