Three crews of firefighters were called to extinguish a shed blaze in Shepton Mallet yesterday (November 17).

Just before 8.30am, two crews from Shepton Mallet and Castle Cary were mobilised to multiple reports of smoke and flames coming from a shed in Home Fields, Shepton Mallet.

Landlords in Shepton Mallet with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of less than E will receive a letter from Mendip District Council over the next few weeks urging them to ensure their property has a rating of E or above.

They will be asked to confirm if works specified in their EPC have been addressed to improve the energy rating otherwise they may be committing an offence of letting a property that does not meet the minimum energy efficiency standards.

The first week of Shepton Mallet's new Recycle More service generated an extra 38 tonnes of recycling across Mendip, initial figures have shown.
