Shepton Mallet AFC have announced the return of Craig Loxton as their new first team manager, after he stepped down from his role at Frome Town FC.

Loxton, who has strong ties to Shepton and previously played for the club, leaves Frome just weeks into the season to take charge at his hometown side.

Frome manager Danny Greaves said he understood the move, despite the timing.

He said: "While I'm extremely disappointed to lose Lox so early into the season in his new role, I completely understand his decision. We were both honest with each other in the summer, and we knew he had ambitions to be a number one again in the future.

"It's unfortunate for us that this opportunity at his hometown club has come up so soon into his time here. If it had been anywhere else, I think it would have been a much harder decision for him to walk away. I want to thank him for his efforts and the valuable contribution he has made to date. We wish him every success in the future."

Loxton said the decision came down to the chance to return home.

"I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Frome this season. It's a great club with great people. I wish everyone the very best and look forward to seeing the team continue its successful season."

Shepton Mallet AFC confirmed the news with a simple message: "Welcome home. We are delighted to announce that Craig Loxton has returned to the club as first team manager."

The club will now look to build momentum under Loxton's leadership, with supporters already welcoming the appointment.
