Shepton boxing club makes its mark after six months

Round House Boxing Club says it has enjoyed a flying first six months in Shepton Mallet, with Charlene and Harry Fewings leading the way in the ring.

The club, based in Shepton Mallet town centre, opened in October 2025 and says it has already started to make an impact on the England amateur boxing scene. In that short time, it has staged its first competitive appearances and seen membership grow as interest in boxing builds locally.

Charlene Fewings became the first boxer to represent Round House in competition, making club history in a skills bout against Shay Watson of Sweatbox Boxing Club in Bristol. The club said the contest showed strong technical ability, ring awareness and composure from both boxers, with Charlene marking herself out as one to watch.

Round House says Charlene's progress could lead to box cup competition in the future as she continues to develop.

Harry Fewings was next to step through the ropes for the Shepton Mallet club. His first bout came in Barnstaple against Welsh boxer Shane Janes in what Round House described as a fast, intense contest that felt closer to a competitive bout than a standard skills bout.

The club said Harry impressed with his composure, control and technical skill throughout.

Just two weeks later, he was back in action in a second skills bout, this time against Eduardo of Taunton Spartans Boxing Club at a home show hosted by Wells Boxing Club. Round House said the bout again underlined the technical quality on display, with Harry continuing to show progress every time he enters the ring.

Now six months on from opening, the club says it has seen a strong rise in membership, underlining clear demand for boxing in Shepton Mallet. With momentum behind it, Round House is now looking ahead to more bouts and competitions in the months ahead as it tries to cement its place in the local sporting scene.
