On Sunday (October 13) Shepton Mallet Gymnastics Club travelled to Bath to compete in the Rising Stars girls competition.

More than 200 gymnasts competed throughout the day from the South West area. The club took home 23 medals which included three overall champions, two silver and two bronze overall champions.

Amelia Rood was the first gymnast to start the medals rolling in with four medals - second in the floor, third in the vault, third in the trampete and an amazing bronze overall champion for the talented youngster.

The morning also brought great success for Elsie Seager in the under 9 age group, as she took home second on vault, first in trampete and the club's first overall champion for the day.

Younger team mate Hazel McEntee was unbeatable with an impressive performance of four gold medals, a clean sweep in the under 7 age group in all disciplines and being crowned overall champion.

McEntee team mate Alexia took an impressive fourth overall position in the competition.

Later in the day the club's senior gymnasts had their chance to shine. Alice Dillion and Natalie Lythaby both took home many medals for each discipline including an A1 performance on trampete for Alice and a very well deserved silver medal as overall champion, while a bronze overall champion was awarded to Natalie.

Lilly Hoddinott did herself proud with her performance on trampete taking a gold and a silver as overall champion.

Last up in the under 7s was Mia Turner. Mia has only been doing gymnastics for 10 months and started at the after school club at Evercreech School.

As for many at the competition this was Mia's first club competition and what amazing competition it was. She took silver on vault and trampete and was crowned as the club's third overall champion.

Everyone at the club is so proud of the gymnasts as it's been an interesting year with the move to Shepton Prison back in May and back to their home at Whitstone School over the summer.

The club is still searching for a full-time unit, if anyone has any ideas they can contact the club via email [email protected].
