Whitstone School, in Shepton Mallet, held a special celebration evening for 104 students and their parents to recognise their outstanding achievements.

The evening began with an address from headteacher Gill Rennard who spoke about the incredible efforts of the Gold Excellent Students, and praised their attitude to learning and their approach to school life.

Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eavis has donated to this year's Surviving Winter campaign

Somerset Community Foundation (SCF), which is based at the Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet, has launched this year's Surviving Winter campaign, which encourages people who can afford it to donate some or all of their Winter Fuel Payment to help local people who are unable to afford to heat their homes.

Based on the most recent available data, SCF can estimate that around 6,500 of our pensioner neighbours in Somerset face a stark decision between heating and eating.

Eight emergency vehicles from the fire and rescue service were called to an industrial property in Cranmore last night (November 15).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from a member of the public at around 10pm reporting a fire in an industrial property in the village, though the exact location has not been confirmed at the time of publishing.
