The Shepton Mallet Lantern Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary yesterday (Saturday February 1) with a parade of more than 120 hand-made lanterns.
In perfect weather and clear skies, the celebrations in Collett Park were led by a new lantern, the Great Shepton Ram, designed and made by Mandy McKenna.

Evercreech lovebirds looking for a special way to woo their sweet-toothed Valentine this February have a new gift idea - a rose-shaped ice cream.
A first for a UK food retailer and available in a "bunch" of four for £2, Co-op Strawberry Rose Cones taste like fresh strawberries and cream, are topped with a strawberry sauce and served in a green wafer cone.
There will be temporary traffic lights on the A371 in Shepton Mallet next week.
The lights will be in place outside of the entrance to the Anglo Trading Estate from Friday February 7 to February 11, to enable streetlights to be replaced.

Leading businesses from across the district gathered to celebrate the launch in Shepton Mallet of the 2020 Mendip Business Awards.
Past and present sponsors, previous winners and representatives from local chambers of commerce enjoyed an evening of networking and nibbles at Pillars 501 Gin Bar.

A planning application has been submitted for nine homes to be built on the former railway line in Shepton Mallet.
Mr S James has submitted the plans to Mendip District Council for the building of nine dwellings with associated access on former West Shepton Railway land off The Sidings, Shepton Mallet.

A school near Shepton Mallet is to receive a telescope for free thanks to the charity Scopes4SEN.
The Mendip School, which is based at the Bath and West Showground, will receive the telescope from the charity, which is the brainchild of Joanne and Patrick Poiteven and supported by sponsorship.
