Around 100 hair, beauty and barbering students benefited from the expertise and knowledge of industry professionals from Shepton Mallet who visited Strode College in Street for its Industry Day recently.

A broad and diverse range of workshops and demonstrations were held at Strode's specialist salons and students had the opportunity to see different techniques and meet and ask the industry experts questions. Many of the professionals originally trained at Strode College and are successful in their careers.

A special performance, which has been created by 900 children from six schools in the Shepton Mallet area and will be performed by 200 of them, will be taking place in the town next month.

Rosie's Adventure has been created through workshops with 900 children. It is a tale about Shepton Mallet and about what it means to grow up in the town.

Simon Dean, who has been appointed operations manager at Shepton Mallet NHS Treatment Centre, brings with him a wealth of international experience.

Simon joins the hospital from his latest role as soft services manager at King's College Hospital in Dubai.

Next time you use your vape in a taxi in Shepton Mallet, you could find yourself in hot water with the council.

Mendip District Council has approved a ban on vaping, electronic cigarettes and other such devices in its taxis, following a vote by its licensing board on Wednesday evening (February 12).

Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) opened a new shop at Unit 2 Townsend in Shepton Mallet on Friday (February 14).

The ribbon was cut by CHSW's director of finance, Jonathan Webber. Also in attendance were the retail area manager Rhian Timms, and CHSW's head of retail, Chris Judd.

Ditcheat Primary School has been recognised for its provision of apprenticeships.

The school was a finalist in the Medium Employer of the Year category at the recent Grow Somerset Apprenticeship Awards.

TODAY'S SHEPTON MALLET SUNRISE:

Temporary traffic lights are scheduled to return to the Commercial Road Roundabout in Shepton Mallet this week.

The multi-way lights are due to be in place from Monday February 17 to Wednesday February 19 to enable Bristol Water to replace and frame and cover.

One person had to be cut free following a four-vehicle collision in Binegar last night (February 14).

Just after 7pm, two fire engines from Shepton Mallet and a heavy rescue tender from Glastonbury, were all sent to a report of a crash in the Bennetts Lane/Whitnell Corner area with persons still trapped.
