A planning application has been submitted to Mendip District Council for a barn on a farm near Shepton Mallet to be knocked down and a house be built in its place.

The application for the building of a two-bedroom dwellinghouse following the demolition of an existing barn at Hooting Ash Farm, Lambert's Hill, near Shepton Mallet, has been made by Mr J Morriss.

Judging of the British Cheese Awards 2019

With many shows and events falling victim to Covid-19 in 2020, the Royal Bath and West Society is delighted to announce that the British Cheese Awards will be able to take place near Shepton Mallet this year.

Traditionally held at the Royal Bath and West Show at the end of Spring Bank Holiday week, the 2020 British Cheese Awards were put in doubt when then show was cancelled because of coronavirus.

VJ Day logo

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Victory in Japan Day (VJ Day) on Saturday (August 15), Mendip District Council will be flying the Union Jack at its offices in Shepton Mallet.

The council will also be showing its support through social media, with ideas on how you can get involved, a video from the council's Armed Forces Champion, Cllr Damon Hooton, and encouraging people to join in with the national two-minute silence at 11am.
