Work will get underway on the new playground in Collett Park in Shepton Mallet on Monday.

Sutcliffe Play South West is carrying out an extensive renovation, creating a quiet play area, toddler area and new junior area for playing in.

The work should be finished by the end of March.

The £200,000 redevelopment of Collett Park's playground has been made possible by charitable donations. The area will be redesigned to enhance and reflect the park's natural beauty and cater to people of all abilities.

The playground will feature areas for quiet play, toddlers and juniors, with a range of innovative and stimulating equipment for children of all ages and abilities, including, a trampoline, rope bridge, sensory games panel, activity tables and planning permission has recently been granted for a 6-metre climbing frame.

During the period of works, both play areas will be closed and there will be increased vehicle activity on Park Road, with work vehicles accessing the site via the gates at the top of the road.

Collett Park will remain open as usual and all the pathways will remain clear, but people are being warned to be careful and remain safely clear of the site and their works.

While the works are underway, people are being urged to take their children to West Shepton Playing Field or the playground on Queens Road.

There will be a site manager on site during the week who will be able to address any immediate concerns and a telephone number for out of hours emergencies during the weekend.
