A woman had to be cut free following a two-car crash in Shepton Mallet yesterday (December 27).

At about 4.20pm yesterday, one fire appliance from Shepton Mallet and one from Wells were sent to a report of a road traffic collision at the Charlton Crossroads, Whitstone Road, Shepton Mallet.

On arrival crews confirmed that the incident involved two cars and that a female person was unable to get out of one of the vehicles.

Fire crews removed the passenger side door using hydraulic rescue equipment, small tools and stabilisation equipment, which enabled the female occupant to exit the vehicle.

First aid was administered while awaiting arrival of an ambulance.
