Whitstone School in Shepton Mallet is celebrating an excellent set of GCSE and BTEC results, which highlight the amazing hard work, tenacity and resilience displayed by the students, staff and parents involved. Students were receiving examination results for the first time since 2019 after two years of grades inputted by teachers. Despite grade boundaries being slightly more lenient when compared with 2019, the Year 11 students at Whitstone School are this year celebrating results which have beaten those achieved in every year of the past decade by students at the school. In fact, the results make this cohort of students the most successful in the school's recent history.

The ambitious secondary school secured an excellent Ofsted inspection report towards the end of the academic year, achieving 'Good' judgements in all areas and receiving notable praise from the Ofsted Inspectors. The grades achieved are not only better than those achieved in 2019, but also all other years in the past decade in terms of those students achieving a 'good' or 'strong' pass, overall progress and the number of top '9 grades' achieved.

Headteacher, Mr Guy Swallow, commented, "I am extremely proud of the achievements of our young people, not just in their success this summer, but also of their determination and hard work over the past two years. This cohort of students has faced challenges many of us could never have anticipated and have still not only secured the grades they need to successfully transition onto their next stage of education, but have actually achieved some of the best grades in school's history by whichever means you compare them. Given the challenging circumstances in which they have done so, this is quite an incredible achievement."

Mr Swallow went on to say, "I am pleased that our students have the grades that they deserve and which will allow them to continue onto their exciting next stages of education. I would like to wish our students the very best for the future and thank our wonderful Year 11 group for the legacy they have left behind at our school and to the staff, parents and Trustees for their input during the five years that this cohort of students has been with us."
