With more people buying electric vehicles, the question of where to charge them in public places is becoming a high priority for many drivers.

According to the National Charge Point Registry UK, there is currently one public place to charge your electric car in Shepton Mallet, and that is the Charlton House Hotel.

There are two terminals both with two types of electric vehicle charging connector types there - CHAdeMo at 50kW and Type 2 Combo at 50kW.

The government is currently in a consultation period for proposals to alter existing residential and non-residential buildings regulations to include electric vehicle infrastructure requirements.

It is proposing to alter building regulations for new residential buildings to include requirements for electric vehicle chargepoints and for non-residential buildings to include requirements for electric vehicle chargepoint infrastructure.

Also the government wants to introduce a requirement for existing non-residential buildings to have electric vehicle chargepoints.
